Citrus Fruit

We are pleased to offer our new range of citrus plants to you – all sourced direct from Giambo Plante, Sicily’s leading citrus specialist grower.

Whether you are buying a citrus as a gift, or to treat yourself, these zesty plants are bound to give you much pleasure. What’s more, oranges, lemons and other citrus species and cultivars flower and fruit readily and are not difficult to grow, preferring a minimum winter temperature of 40ºF (5ºC) at night and just a little higher by day. They require plenty of light, and dislike sudden changes in temperature, humidity or management in the conservatory or well-lit home.

Citrus limon (Lemon). Go to Top of Page

A popular reliable lemon from the Mediterranean which produces good sized fruits on even the smallest of plants. Our starter bushes are around three years old and are 40-45cm (15-18in) tall and have developing fruits in place. Interestingly, this lemon tree will normally fruit twice a year, but may produce a third crop of lemons if fed correctly giving an almost continuous supply of lemons.
Plants supplied: 3 year old bush in 18cm pot, Mini standard 3-year old plant with forming fruit in 22cm pot or 3-4 year old pyramid-trained plant with developing fruit in 20cm pot.

Citrus aurantium (Orange). Go to Top of Page

Often described as the Seville orange, this plant was originally raised from seed. Easy to grow, the tree is vigorous and the fruit is medium to large with many seeds. Harvest is at the end of the year and the fruit tends to be used for making marmalade. The Seville orange is very productive and they do make excellent display trees where the overall effect is more important than the fruit quality.
Plants supplied as a Mini standard 3-year old plant with forming fruit in 22cm pot.

Citrus x Citrofortunella microcarpa (Calamondin Orange). Go to Top of Page

Thought to be a natural hybrid between a Kumquat and a sour orange. This small fruited and highly decorative variety is suitable for preserve making. Relatively fast-growing, it can be grown as a house plant, provided it gets good light throughout the year and is kept reasonably moist.
Plants supplied: 3 year old bush in 18cm pot or 3-4 year old pyramid-trained plant with developing fruit in 20cm pot.

Always popular, this small oval fruited variety has bushy weeping habit. Good flavour and very decorative. Fruits can be used whole, or, interestingly pickled in brandy.
Plants supplied: 3 year old bush in 18cm pot, Mini standard 3-year old plant with forming fruit in 22cm pot or 3-4 year old pyramid-trained plant with developing fruit in 20cm pot.

Citrus medica digitata (Buddha's Fingers). Go to Top of Page

Featured on BBC Gardeners' World last year and much requested. This fascinating fingered citron is much prized for the strange segmented fruit which hang on the plant for a long time. Be warned; this fruit is extremely zesty (used for perfuming rooms!) and is sure to become a talking point in the home or conservatory!
Plants supplied as a 3 year Mini standard in 22cm pot.
