A fast growing, deciduous native plant with shiny leaves, producing yellow catkins in March and attractive false cones, which provide a good supply of bird food in spring. Ideal for very wet situations, and is useful for preventing soil erosion. This variety is particularly useful where rabbits or stock could damage the bark as it is rarely eaten by them.
HEDGE Trim July or August. For hedges 6ft (1.8m) or more. Plant 2ft (60cm) apart.

A showy deciduous hedge with leaves opening coppery-red, turning to soft green in summer and then to shades of red, orange and yellow in autumn. The plants are smothered with one inch (2.5cm) wide white flowers in spring and these are followed by edible black berries. 4-5ft (120-150cm) plants have a clear stem suitable for growing as trees.
HEDGE Trim after flowering. For hedges 4-6ft (120-180cm). Plant 18ins (45cm) apart.

Fast growing, long-lived native deciduous tree with wide spreading surface roots. Dark green leaves and large pendent fruit clusters in autumn. These provide good bird food in spring. Wind tolerant. Thrives on deep lime-rich soils. It is not advisable to plant Ash in a hedge as it will give rise to gaps forming in the hedge due to the large size of its foliage. Tree guards should be used on Ash as it is prone to stock and rabbit damage.
