Fast growing, long-lived native deciduous tree with wide spreading surface roots. Dark green leaves and large pendent fruit clusters in autumn. These provide good bird food in spring. Wind tolerant. Thrives on deep lime-rich soils. It is not advisable to plant Ash in a hedge as it will give rise to gaps forming in the hedge due to the large size of its foliage. Tree guards should be used on Ash as it is prone to stock and rabbit damage. TREE 25ft x 15ft (7.6m x 4.6m) in 20 years, ultimate height 100ft (30m).
