Possibly the most majestic evergreen tree in the British Isles. Leathery green leaves, dark and glossy above, downy beneath, sometimes toothed, but very variable in form. Responds well to clipping thus making an excellent hedge especially in coastal areas, where it thrives and will form a stiff, wind resistant hedge. Not suitable for very cold inland areas, and will need some protection from the cold when young. Also suitable for adding to a mixed hedge. HEDGE Trim in winter. For hedges 4-10ft (1.2-3m).
