Raised in the 17th century by a physician Dr. Ashmead of Gloucester. Beautiful flowers, apples have a superb, intense, sweet aromatic flavour reminiscent of fruit drops, flesh firm and crisp. Skin green-yellow flushed orange-brown. A fruit for the connoisseur.

Crab apples such as Golden Hornet and John Downie also are good pollinators for all apples. In areas where there are many apple trees already growing it may not be necessary to plant an extra pollinator.
