Large, melting, very juicy, most outstanding pear for flavour. Pale green flesh ripening to yellow with pale yellow flesh which occasionally has a red flush. A connoisseur's variety. It needs a warm sheltered site to thrive, so ideal for fan training on a south facing wall. Needs good pollination - Concorde is ideal. Raised in Angers, France in 1849 and introduced to Britain in 1858.
