Called Steeple Bells and one of the most striking herbaceous plants with a profusion of blue sometimes white, starry bell shaped 1½ in flowers in broad spires. Border or can be grown as greenhouse pot plant when it flowers in May and looks gorgeous standing in the patio or indoors. Flowers summer. Hgt. 1-1.3m (3-4ft).
Sowing Instructions. Best sown outdoors in summer in a shady seed bed. Sow very thinly 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Growing Instructions. Transplant to flowering site in autumn 23cm (9in) apart. They will grow in sun or part shade and in ordinary well drained soil. To flower under glass lift the young plants in September, pot up into 20-25cm (8-10in) pots of potting compost.
Aftercare Instructions. Overwinter in a coldframe and move to a greenhouse in February. Grow on at 7-10C (45-50F).
