An attraction all summer long, the 'Bee Balm' forms low clumps of spicy aromatic leaves and quaint flower heads on 60cm (24in) stems in shades of red, pink, white and brilliant scarlet. An excellent border perennial spreading quickly to make a good-sized clump. Happy in sun or part shade. Beloved by bees. Flowers summer. Height 70-90cm (28-36in).
Sowing Instructions. Sow on the surface of a good free draining compost from late winter to spring. Make sure the compost is moist but not wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 10-30 days at 20-25C (70-75F). Reducing the soil temperature at night aids germination.
Growing Instructions. Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Later plant out 30cm (12in) apart into a rich, moist, yet well drained soil in full sun or part shade.
Aftercare Instructions. Cut back hard in the autumn.
