Carrot:St. Valery

A main crop carrot which has stood the test of time and is still popular for its long, red, uniform roots of high quality and rich, sweet flavour. It crops and keeps well and the internal colour is good with only a small core. Highly recommended for eating fresh or winter storage.

Sowing Instructions. Carrots prefer a deep rich, well drained soil which does not contain fresh manure or compost. Sow from spring to mid summer in drills 1cm (½in) deep, spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Making repeat sowings every 21-30 days if you prefer a continuous supply of young carrots through the summer.

Growing Instructions. As soon as the seedlings are large enough to handle, start thinning them out so they are finally 10cm (4in) apart.

Aftercare Instructions. The last thinnings will provide tender roots just large enough to be used. Harvest summer and autumn.
