Seed Potatoes at Buckingham Garden Centre

In early January shelves in the shop will once again be laden with 40 varieties of seed potatoes – yes, even more varieties than last year. As usual they will be sold loose so you can choose exactly how many potatoes you want.

POTATO WEEKEND: 16th & 17th February 2008

We will be celebrating its excellence again next year with ' ‘Potato Day' over the week-end of 16/17th February. Colin Randel from Thompson & Morgan will be with us all week-end to give informal lectures, and to talk to any visitors. He is a real font of knowledge about vegetable growing and with his warm Devon accent is a joy to listen to, so make a note in your diary to come along.

If you are new to seed potatoes you will find our quick guide to seed potatoes useful.

GOLDEN WONDER SEED POTATO Main Crop
Russet skinned. One of the best varieties for roasting and frying. This potato has a deep rich flavour which improves on storage. A good cropper. Slug resistant.

PINK FIR APPLE SEED POTATO Main Crop
This very old variety is low yielding, and matures late in the season. Excellent salad potatoes with firm waxy pale yellow flesh, which are also good boiled. They should be boiled in their skins which are then easily removed. They retain a superb 'new potato' flavour well into the new year and rarely discolour after cooking.

ROMANO SEED POTATO Main Crop
High yield of round potatoes with creamy white, waxy flesh. Good all round cooker, often grown in preference to Desiree because of its greater scab resistance and the better appearance of the potatoes, but Romano is less drought resistant.
